Error Code 2002F when trying to update to Catalina

Hi,

For some reason my Mac (Late 2013) decided to freeze at about 99.9% startup.

I suspected a lame driver so tried to recover.

Tried all the non drastic recovery Command+R but this didn't succeed!

Silly me did not do the right thing by backing up the system :-(.

So made the drastic decision to erase and format.

Recovered to OS X Mountain Lion.

But now am unable to upgrade to Catalina.

Trying through Safari - App Store or Upgrade through Preferences gives

"Unable to connect" "Not a secure connection".

Tried the Option+Command+R and waited while the world spun and ended up with the error code -2002F.

Connecting through Wifi.

Sharing of knowledge would be appreciated.

My notes on error "2002f" was reported when i had DHCP forwarder enabled on the router.


the solution was simple:


1 - I had to set the static DNS servers to google's DNS IP addresses instead of openDNS.


2 - I Had to enable "DNSmasq for DHCP" & "DNSmasq for DNS"


The recovery worked as expected it took around 20 minutes to download the initial recovery utility, then another 4 Hours to download OSX lion.

But...


 Start up from macOS Recovery

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.


APFS won't work for Sierra, Sierra needs MacOS Extended Journaled. High Sierra won't work for APFS on earlier Macs.


What has often worked for others is to use this Restore Method instead of CMD+r keys...
