Adding card to Apple Pay

Hey everyone,

Recently I got 14 PM but I am of thinking to get rid of it if I cannot fix this issue..

To start with I have to say that the card I want to add to my apple pay is issued by a bank in a different country (My Apple Store is set to Czechia where I come from but I live in Iceland). On my previous IPhone I had no problem adding the card and using it for years, but on 14 PM it does not allow me to add the card, saying that I cannot use this card in this App Store (again, I used it regularly with same App Store location on my 12 Pro Max). How can I fix it? I only use it to pay stuff in supermarkets and so on, I do not need it for online purchases, for those I use a card issued in Czechia..

Thank you for replies.

Your issue(s) involve several different settings and you still may not be able to fully resolve the issue(s).

1) Banks may restrict the region you can add the card. If you’re in a different region, from the bank, you may not be able to add the card to your Wallet. Apple ID is associated with a region and your Apple device is associated with a region.

2) Changing regions on your device could possibly disable other cards. Some countries restrict their cards to specific regions. It may depend on the type of card you have, debit, credit or prepaid debit etc.

3) Changing regions to other regions to use different App Store, iTunes store, etc, store may require you to spend funds in your Apple Account/Apple Gift Card.

4) Verifying a credit/debit card may not be supported by the issuing bank.

I can probably think of another 5 or 6 issues that could prevent you switching regions and verifying your credit card.

I’m happy to start troubleshooting with you, but the next step would be to talk to somebody at the bank that issued the card and verifying with their support team that the card can be added when you are outside their region. Will they use email, voice or Text to verify and will they do it to a country in another region?

Next question is will you need to change region on your device? If you have to change region, do you have issues with funds in another region Apple Store?

Resolve that and you can follow your banks guidance on verifying your card. This may require you to contact a higher level of support at your bank to verify this can be done.

I hope this helps.

Cards are unique to a device. The cards Apple Pay number will be different for each device it is on. Card data can therefore not be backed up or transferred. New device, means new device number for each card. It’s a security/Apple Pay requirement.

So, now I’m confused. Are you having issues with multiple cards, some cards or just one card?

If you’ve already purchased the items you’ll still have access to the items. Buy if you want to purchase new items you need to do so in the correct region/country. Region probably needs to be set correctly to add a new card.

What iPhone did you have when you changed your living arrangements? Moving to a new location usually doesn’t inactivate/remove a card, but it’s a possibility with some cards. If you had the card on your iPhone when you moved, not an issue. But if adding a new card or adding a card from a different region, it may not work on a new device if region isn’t set correctly.

Hi, great response thank you.

The thing is that I do not think that there is an issue with the actual card. I have both cards from Iceland and Czechia in my apple pay on my iPad, and had them previously on my 12 Pro Max. But switching to a new device seem to cause the Icelandic card to be rejected for what ever reason. I can add all my cards through my banking apps, had no issues with it before, but on 14 PM I cannot. Not to mention that for some reason I have to add the cards again..

Are you sure? Because last time I switched to Icelandic app store to see if Apple TV is available there (it is not) my whole library disappeared. When I first moved to Iceland I had IPhone X, then later on switched to 12 Pro Max (bought in Iceland) and there was no problem adding any of these cards then, still while having App Store set to Czechia. Now the situation is the same. I got new device, bought in Iceland, App Store set to Czechia, Czech card added but Icelandic one does not work.

I did not contact them because there was not a problem with the card on the previous phone, I used it without problem. When it comes to adding the card I only get to the usual agreement that pops up, I click agree, then I wait few seconds and it throws me back to the beginning saying that this card cannot be used in this app store. Is there maybe a way to add it only so that I can use it to pay in regular shops?
