Linked laptop to iPhone 5G wireless Internet is slow on laptop but fast on phone?

Hello.

Not sure where to post this question. Starting here. Thanks in advance.

My phone is running 5G wireless internet through Verizon. I did an ookla speed test and am getting 48.3MB/s download. When I link my laptop to my phone, I get MUCH slower speeds on my laptop- .48Mbps. Is there something I have set incorrectly on my laptop? Anyone have any advice?

I'm attaching screen grabs of the speeds below. Files are names respectively.

Thanks!!!

Comforting to know I'm not the only one! lol.

Weird also because my iPad Pro gets the same fast speeds as my phone. Just my laptop. Haven't tried it on my desktop... may try that next.

I routinely see 5-10 Mbps through hot spots (iPhone hotspot, and also MiFi hotspot). But it is very dependent on location of the devices and what is nearby or in between them.

Your Speedtest results images look odd to me because the iPhone shows 0.40 Mbps upload but the Mac gets 1.7 Mbps upload. Also the Mac shows much less ping and jitter. Something doesn't look consistent there since the Mac is in fact going through the phone? So how can it be better? In fact the phone numbers look poor, 637 ms ping, that's very bad, one should see something like 10-15 ms ping on decent connection.

Try doing a download of something from a site on your Mac and measure download speeds that way. Or try a different method than SpeedTest.
