Is there anyway to keep my laptop up to date without downloading 6 GB?

I live in a rural area and use satellite internet. It is not broadband, they would charge me $$$$$$$$$ to use that much download data and I don't think it would do it without corrupting anyway. It is not capable of streaming movies with problems. How can I keep my laptop's software up to date?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.5

Not sure what is this " downloading 6 GB" ....

I Know of no way to update software without the downloading part.

I can say —

Point "updates" are more friendly.

Full installers when "upgrading" to a new macOS vary in size but typically around ~12GB

walk into an Apple Store and use their Network connection at no charge.

ref Store List - Apple Store - Apple USA

ref Choose your country or region - Apple around the world

Updating in a Rural Area:

The DTR (Data Transfer Rate) is what it is. So, if it may take you a bit. But, if an update is interrupted, then an Operating System can become corrupted due inaccessibility to Apple's servers. So, ask someone else if you may go to their location, and perform updates and streaming services there. Maybe performing this at work would provide you with a more reliable connection.

Loooong shot: You can try calling Apple Support; sometimes asking for a "system software specialist" helps. Sometimes not. Explain your situation and ask if they can sell you a thumb drive with the updater you need installed on it. Be sure to be be clear about WHAT OS version you are trying to achieve.

The worst you can hear is "no." Lacking that, you will be relying on friends and neighbors as other have stated. I am not confortable with loading OS and security updates on public systems like libraries and coffee shops, but some university systems may be better protected.
