Why does FCP keep opening the previous project.

This is what happens all the time. I duplicate a project to edit another version. Then when I click on a clip in the event browser to play a clip FCP automatically opens the previous project (that I just duplicated) In the timeline. Often I haven't noticed & start editing to realise wait a minute that cut 1 not cut 2. This is a real pain in the bum. Is there anyway of preventing this from happening. Its bee this way for years & Im sick of it.

BTW, why the **** cant apple make it so you can set in & out points using the Event Viewer window rather than having to use those stupid filmstrips. Surely it cant be that hard to implement.

Just because you duplicate doesn’t mean that the new version is on the timeline, in fact the old one is. You need to double click the new copy to open it.

Keep an eye at the name that shows above the timeline. You can see that it does not change when you make a duplicate.

You are saying that just by viewing some clip in the browser, the project that is on the timeline changes.

I have not seen that happening, and oc course it’s not supposed to.

Just to be sure I understand: you are editing one project, let’s call it “A” - you can see “A” as the name that shows above the timeline; you click on a clip “C” to view it in the Event Viewer; and without you ever clicking on anything else, project “B” shows up on the timeline? Does this suitably describe the problem?

Obviously it’s not supposed to happen. I can only suggest that you delete the application preferences and see if that fixes it. Corrupted preferences can cause all sorts of weird behavior. To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an “Untitled” library.

Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.
