Safari is blocking American Express login website

I am an American Express customer and need regularly access my account. A week ago, I am not able to access my Amex account - the page stops working as soon as I press Enter for logging in information. Why blocking Amex? It's a reputable financial company and should not have security concerns. Please fix the problem so I can do my banking business!


Please unblock Amex website ASAP!

Great points in John Galt's link, such as:

  • Test in new Private Window to rule out cache or website data
  • Privacy settings. These settings apply to all websites. For example, a website might require that you allow cross-site tracking, show your IP address, or allow cookies.
  • Security settings. These settings apply to all websites. For example, a website might require that you enable JavaScript.
  • Websites settings. These settings can be configured for specific websites. For example, a website might require that you allow pop-up windows, allow downloads, allow access to your camera or microphone, or turn off content blockers.
  • Shut off any Extensions at Safari > Settings > Extensions


In addition, start the MacBook Pro 16" in Safe Mode and check again:

Please read the following for some suggestions: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support.


Needless to say, if you are using any non-Apple "anti-virus", "cleaning", or "Internet security" products including "banking security", anything at all in that broad category of utterly useless garbage, don't. A lot of things won't work if you do.

If you have been messing with the Experimental Features in the Develop menu, it could explain why you are having trouble accessing some sites. That is the very definition of Experimental and those results should be expected. That would also explain why you were able to access the site after an update, but later not able too. I suspect that would be after changing a setting in Experimental Features. There is no reason to have the Develop Menu even activated unless you are a web developer and have a reason to be testing those settings on your web site. Just be changing the User Agent can stop a site from working if the site does a browser check and redirects you to a different page based on the User Agent string.

I had a series of Chats with AMEX "Help" and learned that two-factor authentification can be turned off:


Account Services>Alerts>Security and Privacy and clicking Turn Off Two Step Verification.

You then click on Yes. Forget. Then you get an email message and another One-Time Password to enter.

Finally, I received an email purporting to confirm that Two-Step Verification was turned off.

EXCEPT IT WAS NOT!

So I went back to AMEX Chat and was told it would take a day or two for the change to take effect...

So now I am waiting to see what happens.

BTW I spent quite a bit of time thinking the problem was on my end and restarting Safari and Mac OS.

If the experimental features prevented you from accessing AMEX's site, how, exactly, does that help criminals?


No, those features don't allow people to spy on you. But they do affect the way the browser works and that could mean it breaks interaction with a particular site. Perhaps AMEX uses some nonstandard coding.

Just want to remind all users that uncheck Develop Experimental Features, why without users' permission, allow so many accesses without users knowing about, and today I just noticed "web blocking is one of the features". Does Apple check who has access to these features? Things gone wrong, like a routinely used website being blocked, how can the culprit get exposed? What security does Apple provide to screening Experimental accesses?


Also, under Security & Privacy and Sharing, everyone should remove links that can access your devices; one system feature sshd-Keygen-wrapper can stay.
