Calls when using air pods
When I am talking using air pods most calls that I know are from android phones I seem to have a problem with the connection?

There is no rational reason why AirPods would discriminate against calls which originate from an Android device. I suggest when you hear the poor audio again, switch to either regular phone handset mode or speakerphone to check the audio quality on other outputs. That should tell you whether the problem is in the AirPods or Somewhere Else.
