iPhone battery charge percentage wrong

Ever since the recent security update a few days ago, my iPhone is showing an inaccurate battery charge percentage. I leave it plugged in overnight to charge. In the morning, it shows about 70% charged. I try plugging it in again and it will not charge any further. I tried swapping cables, same result.

When I turn the iPhone off and back on, it shows the battery charge percentage as 99%.

Is this happening to anyone else? What's going on? I'm reliant on my iPhone and don't want it to die in the middle of the day if I'm doing something wrong. It's unnerving if it's telling me the wrong charge percentage.

Hello ykt28403,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We understand you see a different battery percentage after restarting your iPhone. We'll do everything we can to help.

To start, you'd want to check your battery health. Here is how: Check the iPhone battery health and usage - Apple Support

"Review your iPhone battery health

Go to Settings  > Battery, then tap Battery Health & Charging.

iPhone displays information about your battery’s capacity, peak performance, and whether your battery needs to be serviced."

If you are at 80% or under, your battery will need serviced. If it is above 80% but this continues after turning off optimized battery charging: About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone - Apple Support

Please contact Apple Support for further support options: Get Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hey ykt28403,

You may want to make sure you have the current iOS 16.6 update that Apple recently released. If not, make sure you have a backup before updating and see if this current version addresses this issue.

After updating, or if you already have iOS 16.6, then reach out to Apple Support so they can look into this with you further. Just go to Get Support.

Good luck!

Thank you for this info. Unfortunately, it doesn't address my question. It seems my battery percentage is showing the wrong percentage in the morning and making me think I only have a 70% charge. When I restart the phone, it shows 95% charged. This seems to have started sometime after the recent security update.

When I check my battery's health under Settings / Battery / Battery Health, it seems to be 96% of original capacity. It's an iPhone X, so that seems pretty good given the age of the phone.
