Photos taking up a lot of storage.

Hello

I have a problem about my Photos app taking up 13GB+ storage, but my Photos app is completely empty. I’ve deleted every photo and video, and I only have photos and videos in shared albums. I have disabled iCloud photos too and only have a 4GB backup in my iCloud.

My storage is almost at its capacity and I’ve done everything I can think of to try to get more storage into my phone, but Photos are still taking up 13GB+ and I have no idea how to decrease that.

Could it be that the photos and vids in the shared albums are taking up 13GB of my storage, or is the problem about something completely different?

I have an iPhone SE 2020.

Hello 3ggs4uce,

"When you delete photos and videos, they go to your Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, they'll be permanently deleted." You can learn more about deleting photos here: Delete photos on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you'd like to immediately delete the photos permanently, these steps may be helpful:

Delete photos permanently

1. Open Photos and tap the Albums tab.

2. Tap the Recently Deleted album.

3. In iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, or later, use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock your Recently Deleted album.

4. Tap Select.

5. Select the photo or video that you want and tap Delete. If you want to delete all the photos and videos in the album, tap Delete All.

6. Tap Delete Photo to confirm.

When you delete a photo from this album, you can't get it back.

Hello

Thank you for your answer. I have also deleted every photo and video from the “Recently Deleted” album and that was the second thing I did but Photos app is still taking 13GB+.

What should be my next step now then?

Be careful, if you delete them from Photos they will be deleted in iCloud, too. iCloud is for *syncing*, not backup.

Thanks for the advice, but I do not use iCloud for photo syncing in the first place, anyway. I don’t have iCloud Photos enabled so my photos and videos aren’t uploaded on iCloud.
