SOLVED! As commented above, you can right-click and 'reveal in browser', and it will select it right within the original place in the camera roll. You can then drag it of photos, and onto your desktop. Then, drag from desktop to FCP. Works every time. FCP doesn't like files that are in the icloud, even though they are a mac program.

Do not import your video through Photos. Import your video by connecting the phone to your Mac and bring it directly into FCP. That is the only way you can be certain you will get the original file unaltered by Photos. The files are altered, and the metadata is changed. Don't do it.
This bug is a PITA but I seem to have found a workaround in 10.6.8.
However the workaround is also a PITA!
If you want to try it you can right click on the photo in the browser and select Reveal in Finder which basically opens Photos from where you can drag it into the timeline . . . though you may a well have Photos open and drag it from there in the first place!
Thank you very much for the response, I didn't know that dragging a video from the Photos library can reduce the quality.
I imported the videos into FCP from the created folder through the import window and everything is fine, the "missing remote media" message no longer appears.
Thank you, problem solved!
You can export the video from Photos to a local folder in your mac and import from there to FCP.
After reinstalling to 10.6.5 the problem disappeared, after updating again to 10.6.7 the problem repeats itself. So I am forced to use v. 10.6.5
New version 10.6.8 the problem persists. Return to version 10.6.5
Export the images from Photos.
Usually this just means that you have iCloud Photo Library and the video or photo in question is stored in iCloud, not locally to your mac.
There appears to be a bug in every version of FCP from 10.6.6 onwards.
10.6.5 is OK
Thanks for the response, some videos will show correctly on the timeline and some with a warning "missing remote media",
"relink files" will help, but only temporarily. After re-opening FCP the error reoccurs so I stay on 10.6.5 and wait for 10.6.9...
Remote media I believe means that the application thinks it’s shared with a cloud based location. Where is the library and where is the media location? Is this always Photos related? I really would not put video for FCP in Photos; it handles files poorly, making assumptions about usability and convenience and not using highest available quality original files. It’s really a closed system for storage and display, which is why edited content isn’t readily available outside the application.
I'm having this problem with photos I took on the iPhone. Are on my hard drive of the mac (I think) which automatically downloads full images from iCloud.
Could it be i haven't waited long enough for all to download to the mac?! used to work flawlessly. Trying to avoid the EXPORT first step as this PHOTOS integration is supposed to work.
I drag them in and they immediately go MISSING.
Appreciate thoughts.
..and a little bit later, all but two of the images seem to be found.
But notice one of them is a very tiny image though shows full size in PHOTOS.
and the last is still missing
All this is very new behavior as I've used the workflow many times over the years.
I have the Photo Library and the corresponding videos stored on the internal drive of Mac Studio, I do not use iCloud.
