Did you reset your password from the message that was sent to you? That message was a scam sent out by the person who found your phone. You did not reset your password, you just gave the scammer your ID password.

Log on to your Apple account and change the password immediately.

That was a scam message from the thieves.

Apple doesn't send any such messages.

If you clicked the link in the scam message and entered your account information, you gave it to the thieves.

They now have control of your account.
