Safe Browsing

If you visit a website, a new website may pop up in a smaller format in the same window.

While this new website is loading, the text "not safe" often appears for a short period of time up to the left - while no further notice is given when the page has finished loading.

Is this a safe site, or not - and what should one do?

Do you have any safety advice and recommendations on what should be done when various things pop up from other websites, advertising, fraud/hacking attempts etc.?

Is there one or more safe and recommended Apple Apps that can be installed from the App Store that can stop this and improve security?

My recommendation for a place to start learning about Mac security is this article:

Effective defenses against malware and ot… - Apple Community

Within that article are lots of links to additional resources. There is a section specifically on pop-ups.

Without actually seeing what you're seeing, it's hard to know what it means. Can you possibly post a screen shot? Are you able to tell us what these websites are?

Without a better idea of what "it" is, it's impossible to make any recommendations. Generally speaking, adding third-party apps decreases security rather than increasing it. Sometimes a little; sometimes a lot. The article I linked to will provide you with a lot more information on that. I would suggest you read through it and any of the associated links regarding pop-ups before continuing. It will give you more context for asking questions.

If it's just a question of pop-up windows, you can go to Safari>Settings>Websites>Pop Up Windows>When Visiting Other Websites> and change it from Allow to one of the blocking options.

But, I don't know what the actual problem is at this point.

Human action can negate many built in safeguards. In reality, how safe you are is largely how safe you act.

Good common sense, as well as the normal admonitions to not take certain actions, and listening to that little voice in your head that tells you the situations is just not safe is always advisable. Unfortunately, that "sixth sense" often comes with experiences that teaches valuable lessons.

Will check the article.

It did not pop up this time, but do so from time to time on different websites.

While this new website is loading, the text "not safe" often appears for maybe jus a second up to the left - while no further notice is given when the page has finished loading.

I doubt it is possible to take a screen shot because of the short period of time the text "not safe" is showing.

It has not caused any problems so far, so maybe just the bult in antivirus is checking the website while loading - but can not find anything since no further notice is given when the page has finished loading?
