Macbook Pro 2019 keeps opening new Note or Message while typing

Hi I just got a 2019 Macbook Pro and it is running OS Ventura. When I am typing a text message it suddenly decides to open a new message. Same thing happens while typing in Notes. It opens a new note mid sentence. Driving me insane. I have to start typing over again as part of my sentence(s) are in the new note or in user address field in the new message in Messages.

Any ideas? This has never happened to me before with all of the previous Macbook Pros and OSes over the years. But it is a serious productivity drag and infuriating.

Hi, apologies for the belated response. I think I figured out the issue. It appears to be the ultra sensitive Touch Bar. I rest my left hand on the MAC, and my fingers extend over the first few “buttons” on the touchbar. I switched it from application centric to basic MAC commands. So now, it just shuts the screen down if I brush over the left side of the bar. Today, I moved the “buttons" around, so that if I brush the left side, it just dims the keyboard. But there is no way I can find to adjust sensitivity. Ultra sensitive is an understatement! This is my first Touch Bar MAC, so it was baffling!

Hello frackful,

It sounds like there's an issue with new Messages or Notes opening unexpected. As there are shortcuts for new Messages and new Notes, check your settings with the two articles below to ensure you're not inadvertently typing the shortcut or completing the gesture to open a new message or note.

If the issue continue test in a new user account on your Mac. If needed, the article here can help you set one up to test. Add a user or group on Mac

You can also test the issue while booted to safe mode: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If the issue continues let us know, and provide more information about your current set up. For example, are you using a Bluetooth keyboard when this occurs or the built-in keyboard. Also, are there any magnets, clothing buttons, or jewelry touching the trackpad when this occurs?
