Replying to a text message

While replying to a text message, I get an important incoming message. I jump over to answer it but cannot get back to original half typed reply message. Or I need to swipe over to Safari to look up something to put in original reply text and cannot get back to it?

If iOS needs to recover operating memory, it will do so from suspended apps, meaning any app that is not the one you're currently using. If it does that and recovers the memory from Messages, you would lose anything unsent. Messages has no drafts function.

You might be able to avoid this by, before you switch to another app, copying the draft. That way, if you lose it, you should be able to paste it back. Or, if you make a habit of writing very long messages, draft them in Notes and then share them back to Messages.
