Apple watch not pairing

I have received a gift of apple watch series 7 from my friend and i am using iphone 7 plus. Apple watch is not pairing with it. Is it possible to downgrade my apple watch version so that i can use my series 7 watch with my iphone 7 plus. Kindly help.

First off, there's no need to downgrade your Apple Watch version.

I'd check the following:

Did your friend prepare the watch properly before gifting it to you? Here's what he/she should have done: Get your Apple Watch ready for service - Apple Support. If it wasn't prepared properly it won't pair with your iPhone, as it may still be paired with your friend's iPhone.
Make sure your iPhone is up to date. Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Just curious...did you want an Apple Watch version that matches your iPhone version? 😀
