Audio in Al Jazeera English app Is in Arabic

The Al Jazeera English version app, v1.3.2 May 9, 2023, seems corrupted on my Apple TV 4K. Although the individual news cliips are in English, the live feed audio, whether under the Home menu header or the Watch Now menu header, is in Arabic.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I’ve deleted the app, restarted ATV in Settings>General>System, then reloaded the app; but the live feed audio is still in Arabic.

Does anyone else have thoughts on how to fix it?

In general, try this for any misbehaving app:

  1. Force-quit the app, then relaunch and try again.
  2. If the issue persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
  3. If the issue still persists, delete the app, re-download and try again.
  4. If the issue still persists after that, then contact the app developer for further assistance.

That could mean there is some confusion in my Apple account about my primary language

Verify the device language, and the preferred audio language, and the the region for the device.

Also check if the app has in-app Settings that might influence languages.

or that the West Coast ATV Applications Server from which I download the app is sending out a corrupted version that the East Coast Server is not.

I would expect that any such errors, if present, are automatically detected and corrected from checksum verification. CDNs need verification, and it will be automated. It also seems unlikely that a corrupted file would work, but with a different audio language. I think something needs adjusting on your device.

Hi, Lawrence. The first thing I did was call to friends with Apple TV 4K’s to see if they also got only the Arabic feed in the English Al Jazeera app. They got the correct English feed. That could mean there is some confusion in my Apple account about my primary language or that the West Coast ATV Applications Server from which I download the app is sending out a corrupted version that the East Coast Server is not.

I was hoping someone else on the West Coast could confirm that they were getting the correct English audio live feed in the Al Jazeera English app.

Streaming the Al Jazeera Live YouTube feed is a good intermediate solution while waiting for Al Jazeera to clear up the coding conflict. It took about 10 days for a fix several months ago. The YouTube feed has the advantage of closed captions.

Since Apple doesn’t have an ATV backup feature that restores the apps, Home Screen configuration and settings, the YouTube feed is an easier solution than a factory reset.

I find Apple TV easier to use than hopping around my Samsung QLED interface. I use app folders - for general stuff (21), movies (41), music (5), news (18), sports (7) and TV networks (38). Except for using Microsoft Flight Simulator on Samsung Xbox Gaming, I use Apple TV exclusively.
