Every Face ID iPhone has this from the beginning. Nothing has changed.

Face ID is an advanced biometric authentication technology developed by Apple, which utilizes the user's facial features to securely unlock their device, authenticate purchases, and access sensitive data. Compared to traditional passcodes or passwords, Face ID offers a more convenient and secure way of verifying a user's identity.

When a user initiates a purchase in the App Store, whether it's for a paid app or an in-app purchase, Face ID comes into play.

However, to add an additional layer of security and ensure that the purchase is genuinely authorized by the person currently using the device, Apple had introduced the requirement for a double-click of the side button (or the Sleep/Wake button, depending on the device model) after Face ID authentication. This double-click serves as a confirmation of the user's physical presence and conscious intent to proceed with the purchase.

By combining the biometric verification of Face ID with the conscious action of double-clicking the side button, Apple reinforces the security of the purchase process. This prevents unauthorized transactions that could potentially occur if someone gained access to the unlocked device while the user was momentarily away. The double-click action acts as a "second factor" of authentication, supplementing the facial recognition process and making it less susceptible to fraudulent attempts.

In summary, Face ID provides a robust and reliable method of authenticating users in the App Store, and the additional step of double-clicking the side button adds an extra level of protection. Together, these mechanisms ensure that purchases are confirmed by the legitimate user, safeguarding against unauthorized transactions and enhancing the overall security of the user's device and personal information.
