Can't type my login password on my MacBook Air

Hey there, I received my macbook yesterday and I set up my user account straight away. After a reboot, I can no longer login because the ^ (caret) seems to be an illegal character so I can't even type it (this character is in my password) but it wasn't when I created my user account.

I'd like to point out that I have a AZERTY keyboard and my password is working when dealing with disk utility in macOS recovery.

I don"t know if it will matter in your situation, but on a French keyboard to get a ^ you need to type the ^ key and then a space. Otherwise the ^ can wind up over the next letter, e.g ^ then a produces â

Well, when all else fails, consider wiping the drive and installing a fresh OS. But be sure you don't choose an other password with "illegal" characters.

Of course backup your data first and confirm the backup is good. But don't restore settings and/or users or you'll be right back where you started.
