Ventura 14.5 file sharing still not working

Is anyone still unable to share files in 14.5 between M series computers? I have tried everything and Apple support is unable to solve it. Any advice?

First, Avast and Clean My Mac should be completely uninstalled with an official uninstaller. There have literally been many hundreds of posts from users whose problems were resolved when these programs were uninstalled. Just turning them off or putting the application in the trash is not enough. These are intrusive programs that place files in many different places and if you want them still, fine, but uninstall them temporarily to see if they have caused this.

A common problem is that an update or upgrade of the MacOS results in a major glitch later attributed to one of these programs. Or they work with an older MacOS but not with the newest one.

What you say about turning off the firewall and this having an impact is a red flag. These other programs meant to "protect" you often conflict with the Mac's built in protections.

I don't know much about CLAM AV but you don't need anti virus on a Mac so these anti virus programs can do nothing positive and can only do harm.

Please scrutinize your setup for Privacy and Security (in Settings) and also check that you have no third party security, safety monitoring, anti-virus, or VPN software active, or even installed but inactive. Also, if you have any "cleaning" type software on your Mac those tools can lead to removal or modification of certain files that may interfere with normal MacOS functions (such as Sharing).

Thank you for your input steve626.

I deleted Avast VPN, Clean My Mac and ClamX AV on both computers with the official uninstallers plus I did a search in Spotlight and Find Any File to delete straggling preferences and other related files. There were very few left - mostly preferences.

I reinstalled Mac OS 13.5 again on both computers, but they will not share files with each other saying there is a problem and the devices do not exist. Both computers show up each computer in Settings under the Apple ID setting. So they do see each other.

They will still not share files in Safe Mode either way. So it is not 3rd party app related.

Hopefully the next update will resolve this. I am exchanging files through SSDs and iCloud in the meanwhile.

Any more ideas out there?

Yes. That was 13.5 Ventura.

I do have Avast VPN, Clean My Mac and ClamX AV installed, but they are turned off. I was running these on two Intel Macs in OS 13.2 without file sharing issues or other problems. But the M chips may be more sensitive to this.

By the way, I never turned on or used Clean My Mac for malware/virus protection. I did turn off the firewall in the 24" iMac once. The MacBook Pro could share files with iMac temporarily. But I've never been able to connect with the MacBook Pro with the iMac again.

File sharing worked before with the same configurations no longer works with the new computers. I even reinstalled the OS on both computers. No joy.
