You don't say how much the battery depletes in 3 hours, but it is normal to see a short term increased discharge for a day or two, soon after a software update. The cause is believed to be the new software working behind the scenes to complete installation and clean up the stored data. More work, more battery usage.
It is also reasonable to point out your Apple Watch Series 4 is now getting older, and the battery may be approaching the end of its useful service life. If the problem persists beyond a few days please contact Apple Support and arrange getting the battery checked by Apple Service.
Thanks very much for the reply. Actually the battery will fully drain from 100% to 0% in that time. It has been decreasing gradually over the last few months which is expected but in the last week or so it has just gone way down to the point of being useless. If I do a workout it goes even faster. Last week started a workout at 75% and the watch died after 45 minutes. With the age, not worth exploring further. I found the series 8 on sale for $90 off and ordered it today. But thank you again for your reply.
