Hi,
the cd icon does not appear anywhere when the disc is installed

In that case, it suggests that either the default music player on your computer is not be set to iTunes, or that the CD drive is faulty. Check in your computer's Settings/Apps/Default Apps/Music player. It should be set to iTunes.

If that setting is okay, the obvious question is does the CD drive make any noise once the CD draw is closed? (The noise is the drive reading the disc.) If not, try other apps on your computer (such as Windows Media Player); can you see the CD in any other programme?

One last point; make sure that the CD really is a factory made CD. This is because home burnt CDs, with MP3 audio files on them are not "audio CDs". Instead, they are data CDs that have music files on them. In this situation, the procedure for adding that music to your iTunes Library is completely different.

The best way to check the CD is to look in Windows Explorer:

If the Type (on the right hand side of the screenshot) states anything other than Audio CD Track, then it's not an audio CD and you will need to follow the steps mentioned below:

    • copy the files to your computer. They should be stored in the same parent folder as your other music. Each artist has their own folder, and each album by that artist is in a separate folder within the artist one
    • use iTunes' top bar menu to File/Add Folder to Library and navigate to - and select, the folder with the files in it

That will add those files to your library. However, note that .flac files will not be added to the library, because iTunes cannot handle that type of file.
