There is an available update for my iPhone 6. Today my Android was enough trouble updating. As usual I connected my iPhone to my Mac Monterey; but this time Finder did not display it. Usually I cannot download and install phone OS updates directly to the phone. What is happening between the phone and the Mac?

I just got back from Genius Bar with a new chord. The one I had was fabric and didn't connect. I bought one of your rubber coated ones. That was it.
I thought in terms of switching USB plugs on the laptop. Since the phone was still charging with that fabric chord, which I would not have bought if the seller did not include it, I did not think the chord caused the problem. At Genius Bar, since the technician used a new chord to connect - and I had no other chord - I told him to dispose of the fabric one and sell me a new one. That outside material I do not like. I have seen it before for connecting instruments to amplifiers. Due to performance problems, I have to plan on replacing this Mac Monterey over the next year. It displays beach balling, kernel panic errors, just enough RAM and HD space for this OS. Thank you to all. I am going to have to put up with this system for a while. At Genius Bar they said the laptop was going through old age; and they could not make changes to the storage.
No need to explain. The next time that a device won't connect using a cable, you might consider trying another cable that you know is working.

Thanks for your prompt reply. There are no Apple apps on my Windows 10; and I will leave it that way. Where these articles mention iTunes, do they mean Apple Music? This is Monterey. Apple replaced iTunes with newer Audio and Video apps for this OS.
I guess the iTunes information does not apply. My iPhone is plugged in by USB cable. In Finder the iPhone usually appears on the left side of the window; but it does not appear there now. It is supposed to appear under Locations.
Why am I getting two notices in my inbox for this inadequate answer? It refers to iTunes which, for this OS is obsolete. In fact, this laptop came with Catalina which did not have iTunes. The solutions in this thread I started do not work.

The very first reply from Kurtosis12 above listed steps to connect the phone to the Mac......including trying another connection cord. You must have somehow overlooked this.
I only had that bad fabric cable that the seller included with the original sale. Now, that I have a good chord (or cord, I do not know which spelling is correct), I will look out for sales for bundles of them. An official Apple version probably is not necessary. Even though this Mac has limited use left in it, I will follow the advice to find something small that will clean the connections on this laptop. Thanks for these preliminary warnings. I must prepare for when this computer finally dies.
