Message "Can't download the software because of a netwok problem” after iPhone updated to 17.1.1

When I plug in my iPhone, I'm prompted to update before phone can be recognized. When I attempt to run the update, I get "Can't download the softweare because of a netwok problem". This was not a problem before the iPhone updated to 17.1.1

I'm on a Mac Pro (mid 2012) running High Sierra 10.13.6. I have Xfinity cable.

There is a tiny little upgrade that needs to be installed after certain iPhone updates, to allow connection of the phone. Sometimes it goes off the rails and refuses to install, or never says it has finished, and other wonky results. Restart your Mac and try again another time. When you plug in your phone, you may see that notification again, and you can try again.

If successful, it typically completes in under two minutes, and does not appear to change anything, but now your phone will be recognized and you can complete you business.

perhaps some software you added or an especially convoluted network setup or a VPN you installed yourself is interfering.

restart in Safe mode and try the upgrade form there.

To determine whether added software is the problem, run in Safe Mode, where no third-party items are loaded.

"Works in Safe Mode, Fails in regular mode" implies, "it's something you added."

For Reference...

Troubleshooting Mac Wi-Fi:

A few thoughts to try...

I. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

II. Restart your Router:

  1. Power: off the router
  2. Wait: 30 seconds
  3. Power: It back on

III. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

IV. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Basel Macs Only) Sometimes changes (i.e. Installations) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. Networking) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. So, reset the SMC and reset the NVRAM or PRAM. It might take three tries. to fix this. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

Start With This:

I wish that were the case. But I haven't installed anything for a long time. My iPhone was recognized just a few days ago when I downloaded some photos. This was sudden. AND, I don't know what kind of update this is supposd to be. I am running High sierra 10.13.6 which is the latest for High Sierra, I believe. I can't go past High Sierra since I'm on a legacy Mac pro.
