IMOVIE TO YOUTUBE WITH POSSIBLE UPSCALING THNX

Hi.

I have finished a movie on my MacBook M1 and it is great.

I exported a copy at 1080p, ProRes with faster compression to get the very best results.

It came out sharp as a tack and I could wish for anything more on the Liquid Retina display.

The file size came in at 3.5GB (5 mins runtime) and I uploaded it to YouTube immediately, really expecting that sharpness to be there after it had established both SD and HD which it eventually did.

As soon as HD had been stated I let it run on Youtube full screen but was presented with something that didn't look anyway near as good as when I ran it on my Mac.

After looking into it a bit I think that they have the same 'data' that I sent them, the video, but that my internet connection could be too slow to deliver it to me in full. (There are no buffers, just a lack of sharpness on the edges).

It's a shame 'cause when it's running from the Mac hard drive it looks incredible, I'm just asking to see what you guys think, maybe you have a better grasp on these things? This is the first video I've ever put up.

As I looked around I have heard of upscaling (like Pixop for example) but I don't think that is needed as the 3..5GB file has all the information I need to actually see it as it should be (i.e. it could be a slowish connection).

Can you guys tell me what you think and what you would do in this situation?

I'd appreciate all help!

Thnx, Ste.

Hi,

Might need to experiment a little.

Try exporting to your desktop using High Quality (instead of Pro Res) and Better Quality compression instead of Faster. Then, if the exported movie is of satisfactory quality, drag it into You Tube's upload window. See if that works.

Pro Res is used by professionals where minute editing is required. The difference in quality probably wouldn't be discernible to the naked eye of most people. Also, it creates a file size about 4x larger than the normal Mp4 export from iMovie, so not really suitable for internet use.
