Can I buy a phone at the Apple Store and put in my SIM card from Consumer Cellular?

When the iPhone is not locked to a carrier, and the new SIM card is of the Nano format, then that would work just fine. All iPhones purchased from Apple (without bundled installment plan from a selected mobile service provider), will be free for use with any carrier.



Note that the latest model iPhone 14 in the US is now eSIM-only (no physical SIM card). So ask your carrier about eSIM if you get that model. iPhone XS–iPhone 13 support eSIM optionally instead of a physical SIM card, if the user wants that.
