Problems With Hulu Live TV app on Apple TV

lol it’s not Hulu, Apple Apologist. It’s APPLE TV. Over the last couple months, this is constantly happening on Hulu, Netflix, Prime…Everything.

And why do I know Apple TV is the root cause and not the App, or my internet, etc…is because as soon as unplug Apple TV and go to Hulu thru my smart tv interface (same tv), it streams perfect. And sure, I can dump Apple TV, but people spend $300 on these things, and I swear my Roku 4k that I used for 3 years prior, or even my brown cable box gave me less issues. This is played out. Apple, stop charging a fortune for your products, because your R&D is now extremely sub par…and it was the only reason you could charge these prices to begin with. Time to go back to the basics….

Oops and duh, “MS Office was not developed and maintained by the same people as MS Windows, for example.” should have read, “MS Office for Mac was not … by the same people as MS Office for Windows.” My bad.

Has anyone successfully used Airplay to send the Hulu Live TV app from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to a TV connected to an Apple TV device?

I am a frustrated Spectrum TV app user who has trouble casting from my iphone, iPad and MacBook to my TV via Airplay and my 2nd generation Apple TV box. Every other streaming service app works fine when I cast from my devices, ie ESPN+, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, Max. Only Spectrum TV can't do this.

Thus I am looking for alternatives to Spectrum TV app that offers live TV channels and networks like CNBC, Bloomberg, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, ABC, NBC, CBS, local TV programs and news, etc.

I am trying to avoid the cost of buying a new Apple TV box where this thread is showing problems with it running apps as well.

Just curious - any reason you don’t just install the Spectrum Mobile App on Apple TV? I had Spectrum prior to switching to HuluTV and then now to YTTV and it worked great on AppleTV. I didn’t want Spectrum Internet anymore and their stupid app doesn’t give you all channels when on anyone else’s internet.

My Apple TV box is an old model that doesn’t support apps such as the Hulu TV app. I just want to install streaming apps on my iPhone, iPad or Mac and have them play on my TV via AirPlay.

Spectrum is the only streaming app that doesn’t work. So I need to find a replacement that has live network and local TV. Two candidates look like they have what I’m looking for: Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV. So I’m trying to see if they have any issues when cast via AirPlay to my old Apple TV connected TV.

Yes. My Apple TV is an older HD model, but it did recently update to the current tvOS. My TV is a 10+ yr old Sony HD so has no native apps of any value. I stream Hulu via the app most of time but when I have issues I cast my iPad playing Hulu or ESPN+ to the Apple TV. We were living in an Airbnb before the house was ready and they had this sling tv on a Roku and we only got 3 local tv stations and no sports. So I hooked up my Apple TV and streamed almost everything from my iPad which still had my directv login working. When that ended, I signed up for Hulu+live since it has the best overall line up.

Also. I have used other apps on my iPad like Disney+. ABC, NBC, History, etc to stream to the appleTV and just use Hulu as my tv provider in my iPad settings or when an app asks for tv provider, haven’t had any problems going that way as well.

I just got off the phone with Hulu support with the same issue. I tried 3 years ago to switch to Hulu using my AppleTVs and had the same problem you (and I) are having now. I thought after +3 years the issues I had were in the past with Hulu. So after I purchased a new 4K AppleTV -w- 17.4os installed I tried to sign up for Hulu again.

The very 1st connection & 1 hour I reported the issue to Hulu support (Ticket # 82638994). I type in the correct user account and password and it fails immediately (Invalid User/Password) and never asks on the AppleTV for a 6 digit code to type in. From this attempt, I never receive the expected E-mail containing the 6 digit code and had no means (nothing on the screen) to ask for the E-mail to be resent or enter the number if I had it.

Well, to make a long story short, After being assured they supported AppleTV, and after multiple trouble tickets, and +20 days of Hulu support calls, Today April 26, 2024 Hulu support told me that it works on my PC and until Apple (not Hulu) resolved the issue they will begin charging me (with no access via my AppleTVs). I canceled my service again.. Wow... is all I can say...

I'm retired from a 45 year job in I.T. but it doesn't take my training to tell Hulu App for AppleTV is BROKE. My question is, given so many effected for so long of a period of time then; Who is upset at who for what??? It's obvious there is a feud of some kind... So, unless someone starts off with a blast of honesty here, the only real losers are the customers of APPLE & HULU...

Just to update. I’m not sure if there was any tvOS or app updates since last visiting this thread, but things are a bit better regarding our issue of locking up when switching a live sports stream, usually it’s on ESPN+ since no one else seems to offer both home and away feeds. Meanwhile like others mention, nearly every thing on the Hulu app starts silently for about 10 sec, wheel spins and then it starts over from beginning with audio. With the history app, it almost always opens locked, displays the QR code to authenticate but within 10 sec it appears to auto retrieve the authentication and the stream will begin. This leads me to think that at least some apps do not store authentication keys on the device so the lag to retrieve the key remotely is creating the delays and/or contributing to glitches. We got 1gb fiber with the appleTV wired. But no telling what’s going on at the Hulu server end, could be the bottleneck. Got an older tv in bedroom a tad further, with 2 walls, and had an older firetv stick that was really bad, probably its older wifi limitations, so for $30 upgraded to the latest firestick and bingo - all on Hulu and other apps stream seamlessly, generally better than the HD appleTV which, granted, is somewhat older now but directly wired. When it glitches really badly, at least it’s easy to cast the iPad or iPhone if necessary. While the Hulu app is probably the buggiest on the appleTV, the history app has been right there too with significant bugs even on the firetv stick. It’s sure pointing to certain app providers as the primary cause of flaws since either platform has a majority of well behaved apps.

I have an LG t.v. . We just moved and got internet installed yesterday afternoon and now we don’t have the Hulu app. I have tried to add the app and it won’t let me. I need to get the Hulu app installed on my television

Please tell me this will be resolved. It drives me crazy and correct, it doesn’t do this on any device and I also have a Roku in another room where it works perfectly.

Same complaints for years; Hulu seems committed to never fixing the Apple TV Hulu app.

I have seen a couple of comments that YouTube TV is worse. I switched off Hulu Live for all the same reasons expressed here and have had zero issues. I think it’s great.

To confirm my understanding, you are able to watch Hulu live TV app run from an iPhone or iPad cast via AirPlay to your Apple TV connected TV? If yes, this will solve my problem. Thank you!
