recently updated to new iOS and now when listening to podcast app, with screen off and not using other apps, my phone gets incredibly hot and the battery drains in about an hour or 2. From a full 100% charge to my phone literally died today in the middle of an episode. And I’ve never had an iPhone straight up die from 0% battery.
yes to any and all “did you check battery health and usage” questions. I’m not an iPhone noob.

I have been having this issue also. It has occurred over different IOS versions and a iPhone 12 and iPhone 14 Pro Max. I finally had to break down and use another podcast app and it works fine.
I have 17.0.3 and have had an issue with podcast background app refresh killing my battery. I disabled background app refresh and the issue seems to be resolved.
I have been suffering from this problem for several months despite having gone through different versions of iOS and having tried different solutions, nothing seems to work.
I have even uninstalled the app, erased all data and settings and reinstalled it, disabled automatic downloads, etc. Nothing works.
Seems like the issue is with Bluetooth. Had the same issue with Stitcher, and with different iOS versions
Not in my case. The wasn’t using Bluetooth. And this issue has persisted to this day. No Bluetooth problems here. Perhaps you have a separate issue you should report

Have updated to iOS. 17.0.3 and still having same issues while using the Apple Podcasts app
This is ridiculous. I have to charge my phone three times a day if I listen to the Apple podcast app. I have an iPhone pro 12 and it’s just an absolute nightmare
Yep got same issue with podcast app, only had that on for 5 hours and gone down to 66%, playing on phone and not via Bluetooth speaker.
