How do I find all text message conversations with a certain person? I’d like to search on the name associated with the number or AppleID in my contacts. Or even search on their number or AppleID. I have many conversations to scroll through with different combinations of people, but it appears that’s what I’ll have to do!

It seems like that what you need is the phone's search feature. Swipe down from the middle of any Home screen and enter your search criteria. See this for more detail:

That is not a feature that Apple offers at this time. You can let them know it's something that you'd like to see here:

Thanks for the quick reply, but I don’t think it answers my question. Does that method return results for senders?
I think it only provides results for the body of the text message. So, if I searched on ‘john’ it would report all mentions of ‘john’ but not on messages to/from john. Likewise, if I searched on ‘jsmith’ or ‘212’ it wouldn’t find messages sent from jsmith or a phone number including 212.
That’s the kind of search I’d like to do: find conversations with a certain person.
