I can't find how to continue App Specific Passwords on my iPhone

App Specific Passwords - The sequence has changed and it asks me to continue on another device. However, I can't find how to continue on my iPhone. I checked settings/Apple ID page. And checked Password & Security section does not have it either.

My iPhone is 13 Pro running iOS 16.5.1

Please help

Hey there ahantal,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

Take a look here on how you can generate an app-specific password:

Sign in to apps with your Apple ID using app-specific passwords - Apple Support

"How to generate an app-specific password

  1. Sign in to appleid.apple.com.
  2. In the Sign-In and Security section, select App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Select Generate an app-specific password or select the Add button Blue plus sign icon., then follow the steps on your screen.
  4. Enter or paste the app-specific password into the password field of the app."

You can also use that article on how you can revoke an app-specific password.

We hope this helps.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the information and reply back, ahantal.

One other thing to consider is updating your iOS to the latest version 16.6. That will also include your iPadOS.

Update your iPhone or iPad

Then try the process again. If it still isn't showing the prompt for you or not working completely, we'd next recommend reaching out to the Apple Support team directly. You can reach them here: Get Support

You can also find the support phone number for your region at this link: Contact Apple for support and service

Take care.

Hello Rob,

Thank you for providing the information, however, I found this online as well and I followed the instructions, but unfortunately, this does not work. I was able to generate these app specific passwords before without any problems. It looks like the sequence has changed.

When I give it a name and click "Generate an app specific password", it brings up the pop-up message below:

"Continue on one of your devices. On an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch go to Settings > Apple ID. On a Mac go to System Preferences or System Settings > Apple ID."

I have an iPad and an iPhone. And when I go to my iPhone or my iPad there is no where to continue that I can find for this process.

Thank you for your time in advance.

All the Best,

I am a savvy tech user, so my devices are always up-to-date. However, I would like to help @ahantal since the community specialists are sharing the “generic” info. The solution to the problem is not to allow the iPhone or Mac to sign you in automatically with FaceID or TouchID, but instead I found complete success in manually signing in with my Apple ID and password, which then prompted a two-factor authentication prompt and code. Following that sequence, I was able to successfully revoke and add app-specific passwords.
