word doc showing different information on apple products (not formatting)

This is an old question but I just figured out how to solve this so figured I'd repost from the original user (@

tessa3145), as there was never a resolution.

Original post: I'm really not sure what topic this issue falls under, so I have selected Windows Compatibility, but if it fits somewhere else, my apologies, and please let me know where.

I have attached a word document to an email on my laptop (Lenovo) and hit send. On my laptop and on my partner’s Samsung phone, the received email is showing the correct document, but on my iphone and ipad, the document is different – not the formatting, actual information which has been deleted (the doc has been saved with a new name).

I have even tried starting the doc from scratch, and retyping the new info (not cut & paste, and have not retyped the deleted info from the old doc), but it seems to be still showing old information on my apple products.

Any thoughts?

The word document may have hidden data. Complete the following steps:

  • Open document in Microsoft word on laptop
  • Select Review > All Mark Up (next to Track Changes)
  • Use the document inspector to remove hidden data
  • To open the Document Inspector, click File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document.
  • Click Inspect to identify hidden content
  • Click Remove All to remove items of your choice

I was having this same issue happen to me. An older header that was not visible on the word doc when viewing on my laptop. When I opened on my phone it kept appearing. Following these steps I was able to remove any hidden, old information. Hope that helps someone!
