After following and adjusting as per Apple TV instructions I still have the problem that the TV screen goes Blank after selecting Mirror on iphone and then selecting the Apple TV designated room.

This is a recent problem: after selecting Mirror on iphone, the next page goes to select the name of the Apple TV (I only have one ). The screen immediately goes blank.

Have been using the same mirroring via Apple TV (Model A1469 ) for years.

Is the Apple TV (still) properly setup with registration to a valid Apple ID account? Does it work without AirPlay?

Check Settings﹥General﹥About﹥ for any mention for “Activation failed”, if applicable.

Try a restart of the Apple TV box, the iPhone, the router, and any optional other network gear.

Verify that what you are trying to stream is compatible for AirPlay to Apple TV A1469. Some streaming services make no effort to create AirPlay compatible streams (some web video), or block AirPlay (Netflix), or require a later model receiving device (Max). The content provider’s website would usually mention what the requirements for AirPlay are, when supported.

Thanks for your response. I think there is an interface problem between iphone 12Pro and Apl TV unit.

REF: TV 1 (Sony X900F 4K UHD smart); TV 2 (Samsung UN55J6200); TV 3 (Toshiba 19LV505)

A. iphone 12Pro and Apl TV unit worked fine for over a year, then it stopped (began troubleshooting)

  1. on iphone activated mirror icon
  2. ensured TV1 input selected
  3. on iphone go to App pages (App pages displayed on TV1)
  4. "Joined" Zoom and was able to participate when system was working.

B. Then it stopped working

  1. same procedure as above in set up
  2. No display of App pages on TV (BLANK)
  3. Only audio on TV1; blank screen

C. Checked direct mirror using WiFi on the 3 TV's

  1. TV 1 does not work. (someone told me not able to use iphone 12 Direct mirroring on Sony TV)
  2. TV2 OK via WiFi
  3. TV3 OK via WiFi

D. Purchased new Apl TV (version A2169); showed same results as A1469.

So, there must be something with the iPhone 12Pro that needs to be reset to get back to when it was talking to the Apl TV.

Thanks

With the Apple TV box in use, it shouldn’t matter what model TV it is connected to for mirroring, as the TV only knows the HDMI-in signal from the Apple TV box, not about what the Apple TV box does or what the iPhone does. TV1 and TV2 and TV3 should be the same for this.

iPhone has no AirPlay settings. That functionality is always loaded and present.

Apps might behave differently for in-app AirPlay controls vs. Screen Mirroring, although it is encouraged to program for auto configure to the best user experience either way. I haven’t used Zoom for this. Upcoming tvOS 17 (later this year) is said to bring big changes for Zoom and the like, where iPhone can act as camera for Zoom directly on Apple TV (announcement). Zoom for iPhone is often updated, and may have behaved differently for AirPlay in the past.

Based on these observations, the behavior that you describe makes no sense to me, and shouldn’t happen. Unless someone else chimes in with a new idea, I would suggest to contact an expert from the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (chat/email/callback).

Thanks again for responding. I hope someone in the Apple store may be able to shed some light on this problem.

In item "C" above I mentioned that I could not get "screen mirroring" via WiFi on TV1 (Sony). On TV1 I have gone to select the "mirroring" option on "Input" many many times (and all of the TV1 constraints, etc) without any success in making it work. Someone said that the mirroring function between iPhone 12 and that particular Sony model does only work. Have you encountered that situation?

Thanks

Select newer Sony TVs support AirPlay without Apple TV box. The X900F doesn’t have that functionality.

I see no reason why iPhone 12 would hold an outlier position when it comes to using basic AirPlay or AirPlay Screen Mirroring. It should be the same for any model iPhone with current version iOS.
