Apple TV 3 does not pass activation

My Apple TV gen 3 will not pass the activation. I have tried what I think is everything. I’ve unplugged my router and reset. Unplugged the Apple TV and restored. Tried resetting it through iTunes via computer. And I have signed into iTunes. I am able to purchase things but I can’t screen mirror which was the whole point of buying this device. I have also tried different wifi networks with no luck.

iPhone 12, iOS 16

Normally, Apple TV devices get activated with the Apple ID account as configured during setup. For the legacy models (2nd and 3rd generation), that is the sign-in for the iTunes Store.

If activation fails despite that, then you may be able to “force” the activation by connecting to a computer and run special software. See: discussions.apple.com/thread/253335016:

On Windows
1. Install 3uTools on your PC.
2. Connect your Apple TV via micro-USB to laptop and connect it to power*.
3. Start 3uTools to find the Apple TV.
4. Select More.
5. Select “Batch activation”.
6. Click All and Start.
Finished.

On Mac
1. Use/install Apple Configurator 2 on your Mac.
2. Connect your Apple TV via micro-USB to Mac and connect it to power*.
3. Choose Apple TV.
4. Choose Profile.
5. Choose Activate.
Finished.

*Connecting to power is needed for the 3rd and 4th generation, not for 2nd generation.
