Mac desktop video card

Mac El-Captain has no video, how do I find which video card I need. Yes this is old, I don't go online with it, I use it for all my crafts and it works great. Except now I have no video.

MacTracker says that Model Number A1186 could match any of

  • Mac Pro – MacPro1,1 – Introduced August 2006, discontinued January 2008
  • Mac Pro (8-core) – MacPro2,1 – Introduced April 2007, discontinued January 2008
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) – MacPro3,1 – Introduced January 2008, discontinued March 2009


It lists the original video card options for the first two as

  • NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, GeForce 8800 GT, Quadro FX 4500, or ATI Radeon X1900 XT. Graphics memory: 256 MB (7300 GT) or 512 MB (8800 GT, FX 4500, X1900 XT)


and the original video card options for the last one as

  • ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600. Graphics memory: 256 MB (2600 XT), 512 MB (8800 GT), 1.5 GB (FX 5600) GDDR3 SDRAM


All of these cards had ancient DVI or dual-link DVI outputs – no HDMI, no (Mini) DisplayPort.
