iPhone won't send or receive photos from non iPhone users after iOS update

My iPhone updated to 16.6 a few nights back. First it would not send or receive photos from non iPhone users. Suddenly yesterday, it rectified itself. Today, the Home Screen and Lock Screen are black. The apps are visible but the screens are black. Does anyone know what is going on? Please advise!

When you updated the phone your phone it temporarily lost the connection to your cellular network. Note that for SMS/MMS messaging to work you need a cellular voice connection and a cellular data connection. It cannot use Wi-Fi.

For the black screen, force reset your phone:

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky.
