Want to be able to tell my phone what sound to make when a specific 3rd party app generates an alert. It seems this is impossible to do.

Thanks Tom. That’s a useful answer.
That does seem like an odd design choice on the part of the iOS developers. Surely the sounds are being generated by iOS at the behest of the apps. Seems like it would be easy to provide a function to let the user control what sound is played without having to build it into every app.
That functionality would have to be coded into the app itself. iOS does not have control over the sounds used for notifications by the app itself unless the developer coded it that way.
The functionality is there in the API but 3rd party developers must allow for it. It's up to them, not Apple.
