MacBook Air 2019 starts up repeatably with Apple chime and Internet recovery appears to complete only to shut down and restarts with same issue

I have tried all the keyboard short cuts but none worked except Cmd/Option/R for Internet recovery. However, as soon as it completes this, with no drop outs or the triangle with an exclamation mark, the Mac shuts down and a restart results in the continuous Apple chime.

I previously found a post on this topic that suggested changing the primary DNS to 8. 8. 8. 8 & and secondary DNS to 8. 8. 8. 4 on your router to prevent wifi drop outs. This helped on an earlier MB Air with the same problem but isn't doing so in this case.

If I change the primary and secondary DNS back to the default settings 0. 0. 0. 0 and enter the router password, Internet recovery finally results in an exclamation mark after not showing any progress bar.

I had a session with Apple customer service online with no solution other than he suggested I take it in to an Apple store genius bar but unfortunately I do not have access to an Apple store anywhere near me.

Any suggestions other than that appreciated.

  1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM: The NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory) or PRAM (Parameter RAM) stores various settings related to display, audio, and other components. Resetting it might help. To do this, restart your MacBook Air and immediately press and hold the Option, Command, P, and R keys simultaneously. Keep holding them until you hear the startup chime a second time and then release. This can often clear up startup-related issues.
  2. Boot in Safe Mode: Boot your MacBook Air in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. Safe Mode starts your Mac with a minimal set of drivers and extensions. To enter Safe Mode, restart your Mac and hold down the Shift key until you see the Apple logo. If your Mac starts up without the issue, then the problem might be caused by third-party software or extensions.
  3. Disk Utility: Use Disk Utility to check the health of your Mac's storage drive. Boot into Recovery Mode by restarting your Mac and holding down Command + R until the Apple logo appears. Then, select Disk Utility and run First Aid on your startup disk.
  4. Reinstall macOS: If the issue continues, you might need to reinstall macOS. In Recovery Mode, select "Reinstall macOS" from the Utilities menu. This will reinstall the operating system without affecting your data. Be sure to have a backup of your important files before attempting this step.
  5. Hardware Diagnostics: Run Apple Diagnostics to check for any hardware issues. Restart your Mac and hold down the D key until Apple Diagnostics starts. This can help identify if there's a hardware problem causing the repeated startup issue.
  6. Contact Apple Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They can provide further assistance and diagnostics to pinpoint the exact problem.

Remember, these steps are general guidelines and might not address all potential issues. If your MacBook Air is still under warranty, or if you have AppleCare, it's a good idea to utilize those resources for professional assistance.
