iPad 7th Gen - iPad becomes unstable, Audio is erratic, out of sync with video, screen goes black, iPad reboots

Over the last month or so, the iPad became unstable as in screen became unresponsive, audio became erratic and not in sync with video. Sometimes the user could get the iPad to return to a previous screen, most times not. The screen would black out with occasionally the iPad would reboot, sometimes the screen would remain black and have no response to any input such as powering on using the top button.

The battery has been replaced by a reputable local computer repair shop. Nothing changed - iPad still blacks out and sometimes reboots, sometimes remains black for hours until picked up and manually is turned on by normal means. What's up with this iPad - what is the problem and what is the solution???

As described, your iPad may have a hardware fault. Unfortunately, unless the “reputable local computer repair shop” that replaced your iPad battery happens to be an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP), you will have forfeited all future support from Apple. As soon as Apple run a system diagnostic, a third-party battery will be detected as an unauthorised repair - ending that route to gaining any support or assistance from Apple.

As such, your iPad7 is now likely unsupported - and may have potential undiagnosed hardware issues.

Unless your iPad positively responds to a forced restart - or a factory restore (which completely erases the iPad - and installs a fresh copy of the most recent supported version of iPadOS) - then you are completely on your own.

Have you already updated to iPadOS 16.6? If not, you should do so:

Update your iPhone or iPad – Apple Support

If your iPad is already running iPadOS 16.6, try a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

Otherwise, your last available option is a Factory Restore:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
