This happens on iOS. I’m on the latest iOS on an iPhone 13.
When a track is selected, it shows the lossless logo. But the next track comes on automatically, the lossless logo disappears. This also happens for a downloaded album. It happens in playlists too. Is this intentional? Don’t see this issue on Mac OS with Apple Music app.
I was also experiencing this issue on iOS 16 on both iPhone and iPad. After upgrading my iPhone to iOS 17.1 the issue appears to be resolved. I was able to play 6 consecutive songs from a recent album in Lossless and the Lossless badge did NOT disappear. I was also able to skip tracks and again the Lossless badge did NOT disappear.

The problem in some more detail - if i select a track and it is available in lossless, then it starts playing with the lossless logo. However, the next track when it comes on automatically from the queue, DOES NOT play in lossless even if it is available in lossless. This happens all the time no matter which track/album is selected. If i forward to the next track (by clicking on the forward button), the next track does play in lossless. If i now go back to the previous track by pressing the “back” button, the same track which was not in lossless now becomes lossless when playing. Really weird.
iOS17 solves this bug. I solved it by updating to the trial version available.

Airplay2 works with WiFi this must be stable. The device that receives the data must also be able to receive it undisturbed. It has never happened to me that the sound quality is changed. Don't forget to enable lossless (High resolution) To be checked in the settings.
Read it again and saw I misunderstood. Don't know the AM app, but don't understand why you prefer this AM App? Actually, it should be impossible to play it through any other App. They are protected files, hence the reduction in bits and kHz.
Very strange, but does the sound quality also change? Apple engineers may also think why should the LED stay on, it's little but power is used. With a good recording you will immediately hear the difference.
AM is Apple Music. I have lossless on. Also, the lossless logo disappears even if i play on my phone speakers.
Yes, i can hear the difference. Lossy tracks are a bit shrill and on vocals, sound is more “boxed” in.
I have the same issue and it drives me crazy.
Same issue here. Also drives me nuts and is making me lean toward canceling my Apple Music subscription. I listen on hi-fi equipment so there is a huge difference between lossy and lossless.
