Why can't I turn off trackpad drag lock delay?

When using the trackpad to drag with a double tap, you can select "with lock" or "without lock". You would expect "without lock" actually means without any lock, but apple actually explains exactly why they wanted to irritated their users, and implement a lock for the "without lock" option:

  • without drag lock: Double-tap an item, then drag it without lifting your finger after the second tap; when you lift your finger, the item stops moving.
  • The item can still be dragged for a fraction of a second (so you can reposition your finger if it’s at the edge of the trackpad). To immediately prevent further dragging, tap the trackpad once.

Apple, obviously please reverse this bad, bad decision, and make "without lock" legitimately without a lock.

I am aware that there is likely no fix for us helpless users, so please do not reply to this thread with entirely unhelpful comments about other options there are for dragging. There in no reason Apple should have made this decision, there is no reason they can't reverse it.
