Phantom Messages on Mac and iPad

On both my Macbook Pro (2019, macOS: Ventua 13.5), and my iPad Pro (iOS: 16.5.1), my messages app shows 2 phantom unread messages. My phone (XR, iOS: 16.5.1) does NOT. Here are all the things I've done to troubleshoot this already.

• Scrolled back manually to see if there were any unread messages (there's not)
• Toggled message notifications on and off and restarted the app; also did this after restarting the laptop entirely
• Quit messages, removed it from my Dock, then re-added it. This removes the messages but then they come back after a few minutes
• Right-click the message icon to see if there are unread messages in the menu (there's not)
• Opened the Terminal and run the killall Dock command

PLEASE HELP. My OCD can't take it anymore!
