How to "Dismiss" iphone error dialog "This accessory may not be supported"

I have an old iPhone 6S Plus with a flaky lightning port. (Yes, I know... I'm waiting for the iPhone 15...)

So, I plugged the iPhone into a charger that had worked before. I got the error "This accessory may not be supported." In the past, I just clicked on the "Dismiss" button, tweaked the cable, and started charging.

However, this time, I click on the "Dismiss" button (and it does invert, so I know it's sensing something), and the dialog does NOT go away. This prevents me from doing anything else, like even trying to turn off the iPhone and restart it! (The restart slider ignores my finger gesture.)

The fingerprint recognition doesn't kick in if I click the home button. The passcode buttons also don't invert (e.g., they are being ignored.)

I'm going to let the battery drain to force a cold restart.

Is there a better way to force a restart?

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
1. Restart the device. That's it.
2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

I couldn't restart the iPhone because I couldn't get past the dialog box. It wouldn't let me swipe the confirmation slider that I wanted to turn off the iPhone.

The forced restart seemed like it would help, but for the 6S Plus (iOS 15), the Apple Support link suggests that I hold the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time. However, that just takes a screenshot. Maybe I did that wrong...

Anyway, I ran the battery down and it's recharging and rebooting.

That certainly was obscure...
