Old iPhone reset

Hello!

I finally convinced my mother to get a new iPhone! We bought her an SE (2nd generation) model, and she’s quite happy with it. She placed her old iPhone in a drawer, and was unpowered for a long time. We want to take the old one to an Apple Store and recycle it, and we have a problem. It is asking for a passcode or TouchID. Mom never used TouchID, and never enabled a passcode (I know… amazing it worked for so long!). Given that it was never implemented, I don’t think I can bypass the opening screen. Can we still take it to an Apple Store for recycling?

Thanks!
