Notifications silenced, when they are not. ?

I have been told by contacts, that often when they send me a message through imessage, and that 'this person has notifications silenced' in visible in the message chat. However, this is happening at times when I have NOT silenced notifications. I have not enabled sleep/focus/driving or work mode. The phone is in it's normal state, I receive notifications in other applications -just imessage is telling others that I have notifications silenced.

Anyone any idea why this might be?

(It's an iphone 14. Not sure why iphone SE is listed below.)

Hi there lyndseyhollands,

If your contacts are seeing a message that your notifications are silenced, first ensure you have not enabled this feature by using this information from Use Focus on your iPhone or iPad:

Share your Focus status
When you set up a Focus, turn on Share Focus Status so that apps display that you have notifications silenced when people message you. Since apps only know that you have notifications silenced but not which Focus you have turned on, the name is never shared. Focus status is shared in apps when you have a Focus turned on and after you give an app permission.

To turn Focus status on:
1. Go to Settings > Focus.
2. Tap Focus Status.
3. Turn on Share Focus Status.
4. Select which Focus options can share that you have notifications silenced.

If you are not sharing your Focus Status at all in that area, ensure your iPhone is fully updated next. This installs feature improvements and fixes that can resolve unexpected behavior like this. This article walks your through how to back up and update: Update your iPhone or iPad

Cheers!
