How do I get rid of a small grey dot that has appeared on my iPad? It moves like a cursor but doesn't allow me to click/choose anything.

Thank you for keeping us updated. You had mentioned that this dot moves like a curser. This leads us to believe that you have a Bluetooth mouse or trackpad connected to your iPad. This is an accessibility feature, which is mentioned here: How to use a pointer device with AssistiveTouch on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
You can check your Settings > Bluetooth for any connected devices or even navigate to Settings < Accessibility > Assistive Touch > Devices to remove them.

Based on your description of the issue with your iPad, it sounds like you may have inadvertently turned on the AssistiveTouch feature.
