Filevault vs Logmein/Screen Sharing

When I set up my new Mac Studio with FileVault, I didn't realize it would make the computer inaccessible to remote control. A user must log in before screen sharing or LogMeIn will function.

It's located in a less accessible part of our offices, so this means running over to it more than I would like. But, worse, I travel a fair amount. So, if the system goes down and no one is around who can log in, the machine is completely inaccessible.

Is there some way around this other than turning off FileVault and having the data on the drive unencrypted?

We see you have questions about enabling FileVault on your Mac, but also remote accessing your Mac while away. The short answer is: it is expected to require a password when attempting to access the system remotely. FileVault is designed to protect your Mac files stored on your hard drive.

There isn't a way to change this other than to turn off FileVault.

How does FileVault encryption work on a Mac?

To ensure security when you turn on FileVault, other security features are also turned on. For example, when you turn on FileVault, you need a password to log in when your Mac is in sleep, or after leaving the screen saver.
