How can I add a trusted certificate so that I can encrypt my emails in outlook?

I have activated the S/MIME setting to be able to sign and encrypt my emails in Outlook but when I select to do encrypt it says to “install a valid certificate to use S/MIME in Outlook”

Thread is closed (due to no activity) so I'm starting new one. I've just purchased S/MIME certificate. It took me < 5 minutes from purchasing it to having Mail working properly in macOS (signing + encrypting). I spend next 5 hours trying to make it work in iOS. I exported certificate from Keychain Access to p12 file, installed it in iOS (along with intermediate certificate). In General->VPN & Device Management certificate is "green" (Verified), but in Me->iCloud->iCloud Mail -> iCloud Email Settings -> Advanced -> Sign/Encrypt certificate is "red" (Not Verified). Mail app shows e-mail sent from macOS as signed and encrypts it properly, but when trying to send e-mail, popup message shows "Unable to encrypt" and sends me to Settings, even though certificate _is_ selected (with checkmark) in Advanced Mail settings. I managed to configure S/MIME in iOS many times in the past when using previous major versions of iOS. It's just me (or certificate provider) or is it a bug in 16.x version? It works properly in macOS, so it should in iOS as well?

Encrypt mail in iPadOS mail I can’t figure out how to send an encrypted email message from iPadOS mail. I go into Mail, advanced, and find the “encrypt by default” switch but it says I have no certificates. I can’t figure out how to get a certificate. I do not see any check marks or question marks or anything like that on the incoming mail. TIA. 🤔😉😊

Outlook for Mac email certificate issues Outlook for Mac using Sequoia 15.0. I constantly have to verify the certificate for each of my email accounts and even then the program doesn't work. The program quits responding and I have to force quit. This only began when upgrading to Sequoia 15.0. Does anyone have a fix? I check for updates with Apple and through Outlook with nothing available.Thanks!

Thank you for reaching out about using Outlook on your iPhone. You will need to refer to Microsoft for their reccomendations for setting up S/MIME at: S/MIME for Outlook for iOS and Android in Exchange Online - Microsoft
