I share Find My with family members and find that it is not entirely accurate.
Several times My daughter left the house for up to two hours but the app still shows ‘live’ and with a pulsating Green halo with the location as being in the house while she’s actually 20 km away.
Other times she is at home but app shows she’s not.
She says it does the same when she tracks me.

We both have mobile data enabled and that is what we use when out of the house as we we have WiFi at home.
There are some SocMed apps we use when out there and they work perfectly with our mobile data.
It is only much later that the Find My suddenly wakes from slumber and shows the correct location.
Do you both have mobile data enabled for Find My? If you do it might be worth toggling the setting off and back on again just to be sure.
