Switching carriers on your iPhone should generally be a straightforward process, but there could be a few reasons why you're experiencing issues with your switch from T-Mobile to Verizon and not receiving calls or texts from certain people. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the situation:

  1. Make sure that your new Verizon SIM card is activated. You may need to call Verizon's customer service or visit a Verizon store to ensure your new SIM is properly activated on their network.
  2. Check your network settings to ensure they're correctly configured for Verizon's network. Go to "Settings" > "Cellular" or "Mobile Data" > "Cellular Data Options" > "Voice & Data" and select "LTE" or "Voice & Data."
  3. Sometimes, your iPhone might need an update for the carrier settings to work with the new network. Go to "Settings" > "General" > "About" and if prompted, update your carrier settings.
  4. If you're still having issues, get in touch with Verizon's customer support. They can provide guidance specific to their network and your device.
  5. Make sure you have good network coverage in your area. If Verizon's coverage is weak, it might affect your call and text reception.
  6. If you're not receiving messages from certain people and they use an Android, it's possible that you may not have an SMS plan enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS services.
  7. If you're not receiving messages from certain people and they use iMessage, it's possible that iMessage might still be trying to reach your old T-Mobile number. Make sure to update your Apple ID settings and use your new Verizon number.
    1. To activate iMessage and FaceTime using your Phone number
    2. First, check to know whether you have an SMS plan enabled for at least One SMS*** with your carrier. Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) the agency that issued the SIM to you
    3. If your iPhone is used with a carrier not found in the wireless carrier articles, make sure you can send and receive international SMS. (One international SMS*** Only)
    4. If you can't turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple ...
    5. *** You may not have an SMS plan (Domestic & International) enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS services.
  8. Reach out to the people who are having trouble reaching you. They might have a problem on their end, or their messages might be getting blocked by something on your phone.
  9. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
    1. Restart the device. That's it.
    2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
  10. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.
    1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  11. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

Remember that switching carriers might take some time for all the network changes to propagate. If you've tried these steps and are still facing issues, it's a good idea to contact both Verizon and Apple support for further assistance.

In the US, Sprint, Verizon, and US Cellular use CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. This could be one of the reason?

The difference between CDMA and GSM networks could indeed be a reason for the issues you're experiencing. CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) are two different technologies used by various mobile carriers, and they're not always compatible with each other.

If you were previously using a CDMA network like Sprint and have switched to a GSM network like Verizon, there could be compatibility issues that affect your phone's ability to make calls and receive texts. Similarly, T-Mobile also uses GSM technology.

Here's what you need to consider:

  1. Some phones are designed to work with specific network technologies. While many modern smartphones are designed to work on both CDMA and GSM networks, older phones or phones designed for one network technology might not be fully compatible with the other.
  2. If your phone was originally locked to your previous carrier (Sprint), it might need to be unlocked to work properly on a different carrier's network (Verizon). Contact your previous carrier to inquire about unlocking your phone.
  3. Ensure that your phone's IMEI is compatible with Verizon's network. You can usually check this by contacting Verizon or using their online compatibility checker.
  4. When switching between CDMA and GSM carriers, you might need to go through a specific activation process to ensure your phone works on the new network.
  5. Most carriers, regardless of CDMA or GSM technology, now use LTE (Long-Term Evolution) for data transmission. Ensure your phone supports the LTE bands used by Verizon and T-Mobile for proper data connectivity.

If you find that your phone isn't compatible or unlocked, you might need to consider getting a new phone that's designed to work with the network technology of your new carrier. Alternatively, you can contact both your previous carrier's customer support and Verizon's customer support to get specific guidance on how to resolve the compatibility issues you're facing.

Check your iPhone settings

Go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn it off. Check Do Not Disturb. Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure it's turned off. Check for any blocked phone numbers.
