icloud passwords stop syncing with Windows today

I updated iphone to iOS 16.6 last night. This morning when I got on the Windows PC, icloud passwords required me to "Approve" it's use. It was a new button in the iClouds app on the PC. Now all my passwords are gone on the PC side. It looks like it's in a continual attempt to sync but now passwords are coming over. I've tried to logout and reboot on the PC side as well as logout on the iPhone side. Nothing works. Any ideas? Again this has worked fine since the support for PCs was first launched.

Apple support resolved the issue. There were both a repair and a reset feature under settings/advanced settings for the iCloud for windows app. I tried repair. That didn’t work. Reset did work. Thanks

Thanks Ben_z1. My passwords are still available on my iPad and iPhone. I do realize now that I only signed out of iCloud on the PC and iPhone, not the iPad. So if I need to sign out on all three, let me know. I just tried signing out of the pc again. Below is what I experienced and what I see now:

Launched iCloud app on PC, logged it. It gave me warning that I had to delete iCloud data on PC to log out. It also uninstalled in Outlook. Not sure plug-in in Chrome did though. Without rebooting I re-logged into iCloud on the PC. iCloud reinstalled itself in Outlook.

Here is what I see on the PC and this is the same since yesterday morning:

When I launch Chrome and go to a site that requires login credentials, ICloud password app asks me to enter the security code as always on first launching the browser to auto fill password. Once entered it says “Your passwords are synced with iCloud Keychain” and no password is filled in. I then click the “Manage Passwords” section and it brings up the “iCloud Passwords is locked” pop up with the Sign in button for Windows hello. When I click the signin button it asks for my windows security pin. Once provided, it takes me to where normally I would see all my passwords. However, there are no passwords and there is a message “Waiting for Passwords…” with a spinning circle.

Hope this helps in you providing more guidance.

Hi there kevinlkyle,

If you are unable to see your iCloud password on your Windows PC, first ensure you are following these steps from Manage iCloud passwords on your Windows computer to view and manage your passwords:

View and use account information
1. Open the iCloud Passwords app and sign in.
2. Click the account you want to view.
3. You can copy the user name, password, website, verification code, or note. Do either of the following:
* Click the Copy button, then choose an option.
* Right-click the user name, password, website, verification code, or note, then choose Copy [item].

Note: If you selected not to save a password in iCloud Keychain or iCloud Passwords, you see “never saved” in the passwords field.

If those are the steps you are following and this continues, next ensure your passwords are still saved on your iPhone and iCloud using this article: How to find saved passwords and passkeys on your iPhone

If you don't see your saved passwords here either, then this can help resolve what's happening: If iCloud Keychain won't turn on or sync

If this continues after looking over those articles, please provide more details on exactly what happens when you open the iCloud Passwords app on your Windows PC so that we can look into this further.

Cheers!

kevinlkyle,

Have you had a chance to try uninstalling the extension from the browser, and then re-add it using the steps here: Set up iCloud Keychain and iCloud Passwords on all your devices - Apple Support

Set up iCloud Passwords on your Windows computer
To use iCloud Passwords on your Windows computer, you need to sign in to iCloud for Windows using an account with two-factor authentication turned on, and have iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS 11, or later installed on the device receiving the security code.
1. If you don’t already have it, get iCloud for Windows. See the Apple Support article Download iCloud for Windows.
2. Open iCloud for Windows, select Passwords, then click Apply.
3. If you want to use the iCloud Passwords extension in a web browser, click Install Extension next to the browser’s name, then follow the onscreen instructions.
4. To use your passwords, go to a website in a supported browser. You can also open the iCloud Passwords app to manage them.
For more information on how to use iCloud Passwords, see Autofill iCloud passwords in a web browser on your Windows computer and Manage iCloud passwords on your Windows computer in the iCloud for Windows User Guide.

That can help to see if there may be a temporary issue with the extension itself, and give that a quick refresh.

Cheers.

Eric_G1,

I removed it from chrome. I also uncheck passwords from iCloud. I rebooted the PC. Went into iCloud and rechecked the passwords box. Still no passwords and I have not enabled any browser plug-in atm. I think this eliminates the possibility that the browser is the problem. Getting the Waiting for Passwords… message. Any other thoughts?
