Can't empty old user folder from Trash

Hi, I deleted an old user account of mine "MBP15" since I was running out of HD space using System Settings. But when I looked into the Users folder, the old account "MBP15" was still there. I dragged the account folder to the Trash and tried to empty. Now, the account folder is stuck in my trash bin.

When I empty the Trash, this message shows up: "The operation can't be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure "Locked" is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again."

I tried a number of things based on other discussions:

  • unlocking the folder,
  • gave permission to my current account and admins,
  • applied that to all enclosed files,
  • tried using Terminal (sudo rm –R ) and the file name
  • restored the old account from a Time Machine backup
  • tried to drag the folder out of the trash but l did not have permission.

However, the folder still lives in the Trash. It does not show any contents but when I try and empty the trash, I get these warnings: "The operation can’t be completed because the item “VoiceTrigger” is in use." , "The operation can’t be completed because the item “Library” is in use." , and "The operation can’t be completed because the item "MBP15" is in use."

Any help is much appreciated!
